Italian Meditation Retreats

+ sweat lodge experience

Find Yourself in the Italian Alps

Nestled deep in the Angrogna Valley mountains of Northwestern Italy, our retreat center offers a serene escape from the demands of everyday life. Your rustic sanctuary, a stone cabin, is a 40-50 minute hike along a moderately challenging path, with no electricity or hot water but an abundance of fresh air and clean spring water.

Embrace the simplicity of elemental living as you disconnect from modern comforts. The mountain setting serves as a backdrop for reflection, meditation, and a genuine immersion into nature's silence—a silence that we learn to hear, not as a void but as a profound presence.

Here, the guiding principle is to "BE" rather than "DO." Cell phones, relegated to emergency use only, are left behind as we encourage a digital detox. Instead, we invite you to rest, journal, read, and spend time alone—reacquainting yourself with the art of solitude.

Structured days include 20-minute meditations every three hours, offering a reset for body and mind. These moments of mindfulness create space for self-reflection, fostering self-awareness and self-love.

Simple meals are intentionally designed to neither overfill nor leave you hungry, forming an integral part of the retreat experience. Choose between our 4-day Cleansing Through Silence Retreat or the condensed 2.5-day Coming Home to Self Retreat, both offering a space to rediscover your own rhythm.

* Please note, if required, you will be able to check your phone for important messages during designated times each day, striking a balance between retreat and connection with the outside world.

The Beauty of the Inipi Sweat Lodge Ceremony

Each day some of our time will be dedicated to the preparation of the Inipi sweat lodge or "sacred sweating" experience. It is an ancient ritual spread worldwide, especially in North America. The purpose is to cleanse our minds by sweating and creating direct contact with the four elements (earth, air, fire, and water). The preparation for this ritual will be progressive. Day by day, information and sacred symbols will be given and explained to establish more connection with the spirit of this work. The Inipi ceremony is an ancient way to speak with our Mother Earth.

Noël Wood

Born and raised in Northern California, I grew up immersed in the beauty of Mt. Diablo and the Bay Area. I have raised six children, received a BA degree in Design, a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, am currently working on my doctorate in Transpersonal (Spiritual) Psychology, and have traveled our magnificent globe extensively. I maintain a virtual holistic therapy practice that allows me to live abroad to pursue my passion for facilitating these retreats. I feel blessed to weave the gifts of meditation, mind/heart-fulness, and nature rituals into my therapeutic work with others.

Vincenzo Durante

I was born and raised in Torino, Northwestern Italy. I have a degree in Linguistics and Philosophy from Torino University. I have my Master's in Neuroscience and Meditation from Udine University. My professional skills have been developed in two different areas. One is very pragmatic, dealing with real estate and renovations, as well as art. The other is more spiritual, regarding studies and patterns in developing self-consciousness. I have made it my life’s work to seek the spirit from a young age. When I was 18 years old, I started a path through depression for many years, and I felt obliged to find a way to survive. I have to be grateful to a few important teachers/masters in my life, and I was supported in a deep way by meditation and swordsmanship. I felt led to these things and they truly saved my life. At the age of 32, I started to work with the sacred Inipi ceremony, guided by an Italian “man of knowledge” (shaman) who inherited both the Lakota-Sioux and the Apuan tradition of medicine men. I constantly work to know a bit better who I am.

My Healing Journey

by Noël

My first visit to Northern Italy and the stone cabin was in 2018 and stirred feelings of profound reverence for this land of my ancestors. Although I had longed for something deeper in my life, I could not identify it. While meditating, sitting in stillness, and quieting my mind in this sacred place, I felt an understanding of my life I had never felt before. I am deeply grateful for this experience because it set my heart and feet on a path of inner discovery. Meditation has been one of the most transformative of all the healing modalities I have studied. Over the years, I seldom slowed down enough to really listen to my soul. I was never aware of the power of being intentionally still and present. As I approached meditation and listened to silence, things shifted inside me. Meditation gave me the gift of a new lens. A soft and compassionate lens. Not only for myself but for those around me.

I consider meditation and stillness a homecoming to my True Self.  She was always there, patiently waiting for me to arrive. I trust her now. She has become my closest ally. I can connect to the Spirit more authentically as I join with her. This connection has become one of my most cherished treasures. It does not come through my over-efforting but through my willingness to be still, in silence, and discover my vast, unexplored inner terrain. So, I invite anyone reading this to come find a new, slower pace to receive what matchless gifts this path may bring to you.

Potential (Flexible) Dates for 2024

Participation Investment

The retreat experience is an investment in yourself and your healing. We don’t want to consider it like a service you pay for. Mostly, it is an opportunity to share with you something we deeply believe in. To work in and with Nature, to work with meditation, and to work with oneself.

We will collaborate in preparing these retreat days to best accommodate you. You will receive food, lodging, solitude in the Italian Alps’ breathtaking surroundings, meditation, and Inipi sweat lodge instruction. We will provide more elaborate details regarding the retreat as we solidify plans together.

Each retreat will take place with a limited number of people (2-4*) to preserve intimacy and space for deeper listening and connection to self. *Please note that our efforts to maintain intimacy in the retreats will be based upon the groups that come. If you would like to come alone, please contact us for further information.
